OKLAHOMA CITY, Oklahoma — The Oklahoma City Spark is thrilled to announce the signing of the winningest pitcher in Auburn history, Maddie Penta. Penta was initially introduced to the Spark as a temporary roster addition for their series against Great Britain and Team USA, but the Spark is excited to announce that she will stay on the team as a permanent member moving forward.
Maddie Penta's accolades speak volumes about her prowess on the mound. In 2024 alone, she earned the titles of NFCA Third Team All-American, NFCA All-Southeast Region Second Team, and Second Team All-SEC. She was also named the 2024 AUSPY Female Athlete of the Year and received CSC Academic All-District honors. Penta's final collegiate season was marked by record-setting performances at Auburn. She made 35 appearances, including 30 starts, posting a stellar 1.90 ERA and a 0.98 WHIP. With 16 wins, one save, 15 complete games, and seven shutouts, she showcased her dominance, ranking fourth in the SEC for complete games and third for shutouts.
Penta was a four-year letter winner at Auburn. She made 141 appearances, including 122 starts, for the Tigers from 2021-24. Penta compiled a 76-36 record with five saves and a 1.79 earned run average for Coach Mickey Dean. She ended her career as the winningest pitcher in Auburn history. Penta is second on the Tigers’ all-time list with 941 strikeouts over 706.0 innings, notching 53 complete games with 20 shutouts. She is the only pitcher in program history to register three consecutive seasons with 250 or more strikeouts.
She has already made quite an entrance with the Spark, with 5 strikeouts on only 4.1 innings pitched. We are excited to welcome her to the roster!
